Olympics Crack UPDATE: Bitter Disillusionment

Well, all the fun's out of it for me...  synchronized diving is done.  I discovered the other night that Cube-ambient mics can pick up what's going on above the pool, and what I heard absolutely crushed me:  Turns out that the divers tell each other when they're ready to go.  (Most entertaining:  The bronze-winning Mexicans, with a quiet-but-firm “¡Arriba!”)  I cannot tell you how disappointed I am to learn this.  Here I was thinking that the pairs were just that coordinated, communicating purely via Olympic-level simultaneous body awareness, or the Force.  But no: "Ready?"  "Yeah."  "One, two three, go."  Booooooo.

Then again, if I were on one of these teams, I'd probably just stand there at the end of the platform all, "You go."  "No, you go."  "No, you..."  And then as my partner gave up in disgust and pulled off all that twisty shiznit while dropping three stories, I'd climb back down and find the beer tent.

While in the realm of combat by the masters for enormous stakes on a global stage, the gentlemen of Mystery Science Theater 3000/Rifftrax, including my total BFF's Mike Nelson and Bill Corbett, have heard my earnest prayer, i.e., "O Lord, cannot Mike, Bill, and Kevin Murphy form a competitive online singer-songwriter group?"  And they totally have!

Oh, Lordy! I had to use all my restraint to prevent me from spitting my tea all over my Monitor. XD

Yep, turns out the whole "Lethal Weapon" gag is part of synchronized diving. Syncing with your buddy is a must for attaining a medal... or flying safely from a bomb-rigged toilet ;-)

Caught this (future) title on another blog and wanted to share its glorious Olympic Spirit -- "Water Albatross: The Michael Phelps Story".

Yeah, I kinda had that sinking feeling when I hear them count down, too! It doesn't seem as magical now. :(

I know! At first I thought it was just the USA, then I heard... the Russians? Wha? I lost all respect. So what if they can dive all pretty-like and I have to hold my nose to jump in a pool!

Yeah. MB, I think we have extra high expectations of Olympians. Not that that's a bad thing!

MB - maybe you can get your BFFs at MST3K to cover the Olympics! THAT would get the highest ratings EVER!!!

Get right on that, will you?
