Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 5:00AM It is currently 12:54 AM, and weather.com wishes to report that the UV index at this moment is, quote, "low." It is zero percent. Thank you, Weather Channel, for addressing the question of whether or not I should first apply sunblock before venturing outside AT MIDNIGHT.

This may also explain why, when I put "Washington DC" into the search box, the results invited me to "get the beach forecast." And what, pray tell, is the surf report for the National Mall?

There could be another option, you know. The Weather Channel could be making derogatory comments on our extreme paleness (I say "our" because I share the Western European no-tan skin tone). "Don't go outside without sunscreen," it says, "even at night! The UV Index is only at LOW! There's still a chance! You probably shouldn't risk it."
I think the beach forecast is there just to taunt you. I know I'd rather be at the beach where it is 80 and sunny, than in my office where it is 90 and stifiling.
Maybe they're catering to hypocondriac vampires??
